I specialise in Pragmatic Play slots and Asian-themed Megaways titles. Every review on this site is built on hands-on play — demo sessions and real-money sessions. All mechanics described here come directly from the game's official rules screens, not from other reviews.

5 Lions Megaways 2 is Pragmatic Play's sixth entry in the 5 Lions series, released in 2025. It runs on Big Time Gaming's licensed Megaways engine with an RTP of 96.5%, high volatility (5/5), and up to 262,144 dynamic ways to win — an upgrade over the original 5 Lions Megaways (200,704 ways), achieved by expanding all six reels to display up to 8 symbols per spin.

The headline new feature is Level Up Coin — a mechanic that activates during free spins, not before them. Collect 3 Level Up Coin symbols during a free spins round and the round levels up: you get +3 extra spins and the lowest Wild multiplier in your chosen range is permanently removed, concentrating the remaining multipliers higher. The Wild multiplier reaches up to 100× in both the base game and free spins. Maximum win is 8,000× your stake.

Free spins come in three modes based on the scatter trigger: Regular Free Spins (3+ regular Yin-Yang scatters), Super Free Spins (combination with at least one Super Scatter), and MAX Free Spins (all-Super-Scatter trigger — fixed 35 spins with a locked 100× Wild multiplier). Before Regular and Super Free Spins begin, you choose from 8 options — the same choice system as the original Megaways, now made dynamic by Level Up Coin evolution during the round.

If anything here reads differently from what you see in the game itself — open the rules screen (page 6 of 9). That's the ground truth, and this review is built on it.

Trigger free spins and watch Level Up CoinOnce you land 3+ scatter symbols, you'll see the 8-choice screen. Pick an option, then pay attention to how Level Up Coin symbols appear during the round and what changes each time you collect 3 coins — that's the core mechanic to understand.

Five things to test in demo before playing for real money

1. Experience the 8 free spins choices. Trigger free spins and try different options across separate sessions — compare 25 spins with a 2×–8× Wild range versus 5 spins with a 20×–100× range. The math is equivalent in expected value (same RTP), but the variance is very different.

2. Watch Level Up Coin work in real time. After you choose your option and the round starts, observe when Level Up Coins land. Each time three collect, the multiplier range shrinks from the bottom — that's the upgrade happening. It's genuinely satisfying to see in action.

3. Try to trigger MAX Free Spins. This requires landing 3+ Super Scatter symbols with no regular scatters. It's the rarest trigger — use Buy Mystery (500×) to access it and observe how it differs from Regular/Super Free Spins.

4. Toggle Ante Bet on and off. With Ante Bet active, your per-spin cost is 2.5× your normal bet. Track how frequently scatters appear compared to regular play. Note that enabling Ante Bet greys out the Bonus Buy buttons — you cannot use both simultaneously.

5. Count the ways to win. Watch the ways counter change on each spin — sometimes over 200,000, sometimes much lower. All six reels now independently randomise between 2 and 8 symbols, producing a maximum of 262,144 ways.

5 Lions Megaways 2 — What's New vs the Original

5 Lions Megaways 2 keeps the same foundation as its predecessor: BTG's Megaways engine, Tumble cascades, Wild multipliers, Bonus Buy, and Ante Bet. What's been added is meaningful: Level Up Coin upgrades your free spins round mid-session, MAX Free Spins mode introduces a locked-100× Wild, and the grid now produces up to 262,144 ways — 31% more than the original's 200,704, with Wild now landing on all six reels.

🪙 Level Up Coin — the defining new mechanic

During any active Regular or Super Free Spins round, Level Up Coin symbols land randomly on the reels. Collect 3 coins to level up: earn +3 extra spins AND permanently remove the lowest Wild multiplier from your chosen range. This concentrates multipliers higher as the round progresses. Level Up Coin does not affect the base game — it is purely an in-free-spins upgrade system.

⚡ 262,144 Ways — expanded outer reels

In the original 5 Lions Megaways, only the four middle reels could show up to 8 symbols; reels 1 and 6 maxed at 7. In Megaways 2, all six reels can display up to 8 symbols per spin, producing a maximum of 8⁶ = 262,144 ways. The Tumble mechanic, win calculations, and Megaways feel remain identical.

🔁 MAX Free Spins — the new third bonus mode

A new trigger type built on the Super Scatter symbol. If ALL scatter symbols in the triggering combination are Super Scatters (zero regular Yin-Yang scatters), the round becomes MAX Free Spins: 35 fixed spins with a 100× Wild multiplier locked for the entire round. No choice screen, no Level Up evolution — just 100× Wild on every applicable winning combination.

🏅 Wild — now on all six reels, 1×–100× multiplier

In the original 5 Lions Megaways, Wild only landed on reels 2–5. In Megaways 2, Wild lands on any reel including outer reels 1 and 6. The Wild multiplier in the base game can be 1×, 2×, 3×, 5×, 8×, 10×, 15×, 20×, 30×, 40×, or 100× — applied any time Wild contributes to a win. In free spins, the range is determined by your chosen option and Level Up Coin progression.

The 5 Lions Series — Evolution of Mechanics

5 Lions Megaways 2 is the sixth slot in the series and one of two titles released in 2025. Understanding the series arc clarifies what this game adds — and for whom it makes the most sense as an entry point versus a later upgrade.

2018
5 Lions — the original243 ways, 5×3 grid, Wild multipliers up to 40×, 7 free spins options. High volatility (5/5). Maximum win 3,520×. A clean high-volatility Asian slot that established the series' DNA.
2019
5 Lions Gold — jackpots addedThree fixed jackpots (Minor, Major, Grand). High volatility. Maximum win 7,342×. First slot in the series to introduce guaranteed large prizes through a jackpot mechanic.
2020
5 Lions Dance — medium volatility, wider audience1,024 ways, 5×4 grid, Lion Reel (multipliers up to 200×), symbol transformation in free spins. Medium volatility (3/5) — designed as the series' accessible entry point with gentler bankroll swings.
2021
5 Lions Megaways — technical leapUp to 200,704 ways, Tumble, random Wild multiplier up to 40×, Bonus Buy and Ante Bet. First Megaways title in the series. Seven free spins options to choose from. Maximum win 5,000×.
2025
5 Lions Megaways 2 — progressive bonus, higher ceilingLevel Up Coin in-free-spins upgrade mechanic, MAX Free Spins mode (100× locked Wild), up to 262,144 ways, Wild on all six reels, three Bonus Buy tiers. Maximum win 8,000× — highest of any Megaways entry in the series.

Core Mechanics — Wild, Scatter, Tumble

Base game — Megaways with Wild multipliers

The base game runs on Big Time Gaming's Megaways engine: 6 reels, each independently showing 2 to 8 symbols per spin, with the total number of active ways changing every spin. At maximum (all six reels showing 8 symbols), you get 8⁶ = 262,144 ways. Wins are paid left to right on adjacent reels — the symbol must appear on consecutive reels starting from reel 1.

Level Up Coin does not appear in the base game and does not affect base game outcomes. It exclusively activates during free spins rounds. The base game experience is Megaways + Tumble + occasional Wild multiplier hits — identical in structure to the original 5 Lions Megaways, but with Wild now available on all six reels.

5 Lions Megaways 2 — up to 262,144 ways to win across 6 dynamic reels
Maximum configuration: all six reels show 8 symbols simultaneously, producing 8⁶ = 262,144 ways to win — up from 200,704 in the original 5 Lions Megaways

Wild — Golden Lion, all reels, 1×–100× multiplier

The Wild symbol is the Golden Lion. It can appear on any of the 6 reels and substitutes for all regular symbols except scatter, Super Scatter, and Level Up Coin. Whenever Wild participates in a winning combination — base game or free spins — a random multiplier is applied to all winning combinations using that Wild. In the base game, the possible multiplier values are: 1×, 2×, 3×, 5×, 8×, 10×, 15×, 20×, 30×, 40×, or 100×. In free spins, the available values depend on your chosen option and Level Up Coin progression.

Wild landing on reels 1 or 6 (the outer reels) is a meaningful upgrade from the original game, where Wilds were restricted to reels 2–5 only. Each time Wild participates in a Tumble cascade win, the multiplier is randomly re-selected from the eligible range — it does not accumulate across cascades.

Wild symbol (Golden Lion) now appears on all 6 reels — including outer reels 1 and 6 — with a random multiplier of 1×–100× applied every time it contributes to a win

Scatter — two types, any reel

There are two scatter types: the regular Yin-Yang scatter and the Super Scatter (same symbol marked "SUPER"). Both can land on any of the 6 reels. Landing 3+ scatter symbols simultaneously in any combination triggers free spins — the type depends on the combination. Scatter symbols pay a direct prize when 3+ land: 3× total bet for 3 scatters, 5× total bet for 4, 25× total bet for 5, and 100× total bet for 6 scatters. Scatter symbols do not disappear during Tumble cascades.

Ante Bet (2.5× your normal bet, 50× vs 20× multiplier mode) increases the natural free spins trigger probability by and also makes Tumble events more frequent. Note: Ante Bet disables the Bonus Buy feature — you cannot use both simultaneously.

Tumble — cascades on every win

After every win, all winning symbols are removed from the grid. The remaining symbols fall to the bottom, and new symbols drop in from above. If the new arrangement produces another win, the process repeats. Tumble continues until a spin produces no winning combination. All cascade wins from a single spin are totalled and paid at the end. Level Up Coin symbols can land during free spins Tumble cascades.

Paytable and Symbol Values

5 Lions Megaways 2 features five premium symbols (Dragon, Phoenix, Frog, Koi Fish, Turtle) and six card-rank low-paying symbols (A, K, Q, J, 10, 9). All values below are multipliers of your total bet, verified directly from the game's official rules screen at a $2 stake.

Wild multiplier in base game: randomly from 1×, 2×, 3×, 5×, 8×, 10×, 15×, 20×, 30×, 40×, or 100× every time Wild contributes to a win. In free spins, the range is your chosen option (modified by Level Up Coin progression).

The paytable values are modest by design — this is standard for high-volatility Megaways slots. The explosive win potential comes from Wild multipliers during free spins compounded by Tumble cascades. A single free spin with multiple cascades each involving a 100× Wild in MAX Free Spins can generate very large results relative to the base paytable.

Level Up Coin — How the In-Bonus Mechanic Works

Level Up Coin is an in-free-spins mechanic, not a base game accumulator. This is the most commonly misunderstood aspect of 5 Lions Megaways 2. Level Up Coin symbols do not appear during normal spins — they land randomly on the reels exclusively during an active Regular or Super Free Spins round. MAX Free Spins has different Level Up Coin behaviour (explained below).

Each Level Up Coin that lands is collected into a meter. When the meter reaches 3, a level-up event triggers: you receive 3 additional free spins and the lowest Wild multiplier in your chosen range is permanently removed for the rest of the round. The meter resets to 0 and starts counting again. This can happen up to level 4 (three level-up events); after that, additional coins still award +3 spins but no further multiplier changes occur.

🪙
Level Up Coins land randomly during free spinsUnlike base game scatter/wild events, you cannot influence how frequently Level Up Coin symbols appear — they hit randomly on any reel during any free spin. More base spins means more free spins triggers, which means more opportunities for coins to collect and levels to advance.
Every 3 coins: +3 spins and lowest multiplier removedExample: you chose 7 Free Spins with 15×/20×/30×/40× Wild range. After one level-up (3 coins), the 15× is removed — range becomes 20×/30×/40×. After two level-ups, 20× gone — range is 30×/40×. After three level-ups, just 40× remains. Every Wild in those final spins hits exactly 40×.
🎰
Why this changes the value of each free spins optionChoosing 5 Free Spins with 20×/30×/40×/100× starts at a high multiplier floor, and Level Up Coin can push you to guaranteed 100× Wilds faster (just 3 coins). Choosing 25 Free Spins with 2×/3×/5×/8× gives more opportunities for coins to land, but the final concentrated multiplier is only 8×. Neither is objectively better — it's a variance preference.
🔄
MAX Free Spins: Level Up Coin gives spins only, no multiplier evolutionIn MAX Free Spins (triggered by all-Super-Scatter), the Wild multiplier is a fixed 100× for the entire round — there's no range to modify. Level Up Coin still lands during the round, and collecting 3 coins still awards +3 free spins, but the 100× is permanent regardless. MAX Free Spins is already at the highest possible multiplier from spin 1.

Level Up Coin vs the original 5 Lions Megaways — key distinction

In the original 5 Lions Megaways, you chose from 7 preset options before each free spins round — and that was your fixed setup for the entire round. In 5 Lions Megaways 2, you still choose from 8 options, but your chosen setup can evolve mid-round through Level Up Coin. This effectively gives you the ability to "upgrade" a modest starting option if coins collect efficiently.

Practical implication: choosing the 25-spin option in 5 Lions Megaways 2 is not the same low-ceiling choice it might appear to be. If Level Up Coins collect efficiently, you'll end up with 34+ spins and a concentrated high multiplier range. Conversely, the 5-spin option might feel deflating if Level Up Coins never land — you get 5 spins with a 20×–100× range and nothing evolves. Both outcomes are valid within the game's design.

5 Lions Megaways 2 Level Up Coin — collecting coins upgrades Wild multiplier range during free spins
Level Up Coin meter during free spins: collect 3 coins to remove the lowest Wild multiplier from your chosen range and earn +3 bonus spins — this can happen up to 3 times (through Level 4)

Regular, Super & MAX Free Spins — Three Trigger Types

The free spins mode depends on which scatter symbols trigger it. Regular and Super Free Spins both use the 8-choice system and benefit from Level Up Coin progression. MAX Free Spins bypasses choice entirely and delivers maximum multiplier from the start.

2
Super Free Spins — combination including at least one Super ScatterTriggered by 3+ scatter symbols in any combination that includes at least one Super Scatter alongside regular scatters. Same 8 options, but two bonuses are added: 1–10 extra spins are added randomly on top of your chosen amount, and the round may randomly start from Level 2 — meaning one level-up has already occurred before your first spin.
3
MAX Free Spins — only Super Scatter symbols, zero regular scattersThe rarest trigger: ALL scatter symbols must be Super Scatters — no regular Yin-Yang allowed. The round starts automatically with 35 free spins and a fixed 100× Wild multiplier for the entire round. No choice screen. No Level Up evolution. Level Up Coins still appear; each 3 collected awards +3 spins only.
🔁
Retrigger in free spinsLanding 3+ scatter symbols during an active free spins round awards additional spins. The round type (Regular/Super/MAX) does not change on retrigger. Level Up Coin continues accumulating during retriggered spins in Regular and Super Free Spins.

RTP of 5 Lions Megaways 2 — Return-to-Player Analysis

RTP (Return to Player) is the theoretical percentage of total wagered money a slot returns over millions of spins. At 96.5%, for every $100 staked the game retains $3.50 on average — in the long run, across an enormous sample. In any individual session, results vary enormously due to high volatility.

Three RTP versions — all with the same 96.50% at best

Like most Pragmatic Play slots, 5 Lions Megaways 2 has three configurable RTP settings. The operator (casino) selects which version runs in their lobby. The RTP is identical across all play modes — standard play, Ante Bet, Buy Free Spins (100×), Buy Super (150×), and Buy Mystery (500×) all return 96.50% at the default setting.

Volatility is rated 5/5 (maximum) by Pragmatic Play. Extended sequences without meaningful wins are normal and expected — the high volatility enables the 8,000× ceiling by concentrating value into less frequent but larger payouts.

How to verify RTP at your casino

1
Open the "i" or "?" info panel inside the slotThe RTP for your specific casino's version is displayed in the game info screen. Look for the icon in the bottom corner — usually labelled "Game Info" or "Rules".
2
Check the Game Rules sectionLicensed casinos are required to display the RTP in the game's rules. Scroll to the bottom of the rules pages (this game has 9 pages of rules) — the RTP information is on page 6.
3
Ask live support directlyLicensed operators are required by regulation to disclose the RTP of any game on request. If a casino refuses or avoids answering — treat that as a red flag.

Always choose casinos offering the 96.5% RTP version. Over $1,000 in total stakes, the difference between 96.5% and 94.5% is $20 — that's two extra Bonus Buy attempts at a low stake.

Bonus frequency context

At 5/5 volatility, free spins triggers in the base game typically occur roughly every 100–300 spins, though this varies considerably. Whether those triggers are Regular, Super, or MAX depends on the scatter symbol combinations. With Ante Bet active (2.5× bet, 7× higher trigger chance), the gap between free spins triggers is substantially shorter.

Ante Bet at 7× higher trigger rate and 2.5× per-spin cost is the most efficient natural path to more free spins rounds — if bankroll allows it. Buy Mystery (500×) is the only Bonus Buy route to MAX Free Spins. The split matters: Regular Free Spins are frequent but modest; MAX Free Spins are rare but carry everything this slot is capable of.

How to Play 5 Lions Megaways 2

5 Lions Megaways 2 adds one meaningful layer on top of standard Megaways play: understanding the three free spins trigger types and how Level Up Coin evolves your bonus round. Everything else — Megaways, Tumble, scatter triggers — works exactly as in the original 5 Lions Megaways.

1
Choose a casino and open the slotFind 5 Lions Megaways 2 in the lobby or search by "Pragmatic Play". It loads instantly in your browser — no download needed. Try the free demo first to experience the full free spins choice system and Level Up Coin before spending anything.
2
Set your bet and choose your modeBet range: $0.20–$600. Standard mode: normal play. Ante Bet mode: your per-spin cost is 2.5× higher, but free spins trigger 7× more frequently. Important: Ante Bet disables Bonus Buy — you choose one or the other. Alternatively, use one of three Bonus Buy options (100×/150×/500×).
3
Wait for scatter symbols or use Bonus BuyLanding 3+ scatter symbols (regular or Super, any combination) triggers the choice screen. Alternatively: Buy Free Spins (100× bet) for Regular FS; Buy Super (150×) for Super FS; Buy Mystery (500×) for a random result including a chance at MAX Free Spins.
4
Make your free spins choice (Regular and Super FS only)The 8-option screen appears. Consider your risk tolerance: more spins = more Level Up Coin opportunities; fewer spins with higher multiplier range = higher variance per bonus. All options have the same 96.50% RTP.
5
During free spins — watch Wild multipliers and Level Up CoinEvery time Wild participates in a win, a random multiplier from your current range applies. When 3 Level Up Coins collect, your lowest multiplier is removed (+3 spins awarded). Tumble chains during free spins can produce multiple Wild-multiplier wins from a single free spin.

What to Expect in a Real Session

5 Lions Megaways 2 is a classic high-volatility Megaways experience. The base game is patience management — Tumble wins keep things moving, but the significant money is in the bonus rounds. Here's an honest breakdown of how sessions typically feel:

📊
Base game: Tumble chains and waitingThe base game delivers frequent small wins through Tumble cascades — these help maintain your balance but rarely produce meaningful payouts alone. Wild multiplier hits in the base game (up to 100×) are the exception: a high multiplier in a Tumble chain can occasionally produce a notable hit.
Regular Free Spins — modest results typicalIf you trigger Regular Free Spins and choose a conservative option (25 spins, low multipliers), average outcomes are in the 20×–80× range for the entire round. Good Level Up Coin activity can push this higher. These rounds are common and important for bankroll maintenance rather than session-winning moments.
🌟
Super Free Spins — where the middle-ground action livesSuper Free Spins with the Level 2 random start and bonus spins built in can be genuinely exciting. Combining your choice of multiplier range with an already-evolved state creates real potential. Results in the 100×–500× range are achievable with solid Wild activity.
🎰
MAX Free Spins — rare, high stakes, locked 100× WildMAX Free Spins with 35 spins and a locked 100× Wild is what the game is built around. Every cascade that includes Wild multiplies all winning combinations by 100×. The 8,000× cap means the game ends early if total round winnings hit that ceiling. This is the rarest natural trigger — you may play many sessions without seeing it organically.
Setting limits before you startDecide your maximum loss and target win before your first spin — not during play. In a high-volatility game with a 100× Wild mechanic, swings in both directions can be dramatic. Having pre-committed limits is the practical safeguard against chasing losses or giving back a profitable session.
Big win in 5 Lions Megaways 2 — MAX Free Spins with 100× Wild multiplier and cascade chain
MAX Free Spins in action: 35 spins with a locked 100× Wild multiplier — every Tumble cascade that includes Wild multiplies all winning combinations by 100×, making this the highest-potential bonus mode in 5 Lions Megaways 2

  • 8,000× max win — 60% higher ceiling than the original 5 Lions Megaways (5,000×), highest of any Megaways title in the series
  • MAX Free Spins: 35 spins with 100× Wild locked in — a clean, powerful bonus mode with no decision fatigue
  • Wild on all six reels (including outer reels 1 and 6) — more Wild action compared to the original where Wilds were restricted to reels 2–5
  • Three Bonus Buy tiers (100× / 150× / 500×) give meaningful access options at different bankroll levels
  • RTP 96.5% verified and consistent across all play modes — no RTP reduction for using Bonus Buy
Cons
  • High volatility (5/5) — dry spells of 100–200+ base game spins without free spins triggers are completely normal and expected
  • Ante Bet costs 2.5× your normal per-spin bet (not a minor add-on) — requires a substantially larger per-spin budget
  • Ante Bet and Bonus Buy cannot be used simultaneously — you must choose one strategy at a time
  • MAX Free Spins natural trigger requires all-Super-Scatter combination — this is rare; most natural triggers produce Regular or Super Free Spins
  • 8,000× cap (imposed globally across the round) may feel limiting for a slot with 100× Wild — other Megaways titles offer higher ceilings
  • Casino operators may deploy reduced RTP versions (95.50% or 94.50%) — always verify before playing

5 Lions Megaways 2 is a genuine upgrade over 5 Lions Megaways if the 8,000× ceiling and MAX Free Spins mode matter to you. The Level Up Coin mechanic adds real strategic texture to free spins rounds. If you preferred the simplicity of the original's 7-choice system without in-round evolution — the original remains available and is not inferior. Both share the same RTP and volatility; the difference is entirely in bonus mechanics.

5 Lions Megaways 2 Strategy — Practical Tips

Minimum bankroll by stake

At 5/5 volatility, budget at least 200 spins of your chosen stake. At $0.20 per spin: $40. At $1: $200. At $5: $1,000+. If you plan to use Ante Bet, remember your effective per-spin cost is 2.5× your base stake — factor that into your session budget from the start. A $1 bet with Ante Bet is a $2.50 per-spin cost.

Practical examples: $50 budget — bet $0.20 base, giving roughly 250 natural spins (or 100 spins with Ante Bet). $200+ budget at $1 — one Buy Super ($150) plus $50 reserve for base game play is a realistic session structure.

Ante Bet — a real cost, a real benefit

Ante Bet switches your game from the standard 20× bet multiplier mode to the 50× mode — making your effective per-spin bet 2.5× higher than your base stake. At a $1 base bet, Ante Bet costs $2.50 per spin. In return: free spins trigger 7× more frequently and Tumble events increase. One thing worth flagging clearly: Ante Bet disables Bonus Buy. You cannot run both at the same time, so decide your approach before the session starts.

Ante Bet vs standard play: with Ante Bet, you'll see free spins triggers much more frequently, but each spin costs 2.5× more. For the same session budget, Ante Bet means fewer total spins but more bonus rounds — a sensible trade-off if free spins are your primary enjoyment. Ante Bet is a high-cost, high-frequency strategy. Bonus Buy is a direct-access strategy. Choose one approach per session.

Bonus Buy — three tiers with different purposes

All three Bonus Buy options provide the same RTP (96.5%) but different value propositions. Buy Free Spins (100×): triggers Regular Free Spins with at least 3 regular scatter symbols guaranteed — full 8-option choice screen. Buy Super (150×): triggers Super Free Spins with at least 1 Super Scatter — 8 options + bonus spins + possible Level 2 start. Buy Mystery (500×): randomly triggers Regular, Super, or MAX Free Spins — the only Bonus Buy path to guaranteed MAX Free Spins eligibility.

When to use Buy Mystery: when you want the possibility of MAX Free Spins without waiting for an all-Super-Scatter natural trigger, AND you have at least 5× the $500 purchase price as a reserve. Three consecutive regular or Super results from Buy Mystery is a realistic outcome — plan your budget before committing.

Bonus Buy cost by stake — reference table

StakeBuy FS (100×)Buy Super (150×)Buy Mystery (500×)

$5.00$500$750$2,500

* Ante Bet (50× multiplier) disables all Bonus Buy options — turn off Ante Bet first before purchasing a bonus.

Common mistakes to avoid

Mistake 1: Treating the 8 free spins options as having unequal RTP. All 8 options — including Mystery — return the same 96.5% over millions of spins. Your choice is purely about risk preference, not about which option "wins more".

Mistake 2: Using Buy Mystery with an insufficient bankroll. At 500× your stake, Buy Mystery is a large single transaction. The result is random — you may receive Regular Free Spins three times in a row. Never use Buy Mystery if losing the purchase price would significantly impact your session.

Mistake 3: Running Ante Bet without accounting for the 2.5× cost. Many players activate Ante Bet thinking it's a small add-on. At $1 base, Ante Bet makes your effective bet $2.50 — your session budget depletes 2.5× faster in terms of spin count. Plan your bankroll before enabling it.

Mistake 4: Chasing MAX Free Spins with a depleted bankroll. MAX Free Spins requires an all-Super-Scatter trigger naturally — this is uncommon. If you're in a losing session and trying to "hold on for MAX Free Spins," that's a gambling behaviour pattern worth recognising and addressing with your pre-set stop loss.

5 Lions Megaways 2 vs 5 Lions Megaways — which to choose

Want 8,000× max potential (vs 5,000× in the original) and Level Up Coin in-bonus evolution → 5 Lions Megaways 2. Prefer the original's 8-choice free spins without in-round evolution and comfortable with the 5,000× ceiling → 5 Lions Megaways. Both share identical RTP (96.5%) and volatility (5/5). The core difference is in the bonus mechanics and maximum ceiling.

Session control

Set two limits before you start: a maximum loss and a target win. In a high-volatility game with a 100× Wild mechanic, swings in both directions can be dramatic. Having pre-committed limits is the practical safeguard. Neither the Tumble mechanic nor an active free spins round in progress is a reason to continue past your loss limit.

5 Lions Megaways 2 vs Other Megaways Slots

8,000× puts 5 Lions Megaways 2 at a solid level for Megaways slots, but the broader Megaways landscape offers higher ceilings. Here's where it sits honestly:

SlotProviderRTPMax WinBuyStandout Feature
5 Lions Megaways 2Pragmatic Play96.5%8,000×YesLevel Up Coin, MAX FS, Wild all reels
5 Lions MegawaysPragmatic Play96.5%5 000×Yes7 free spins options, Wild up to 40×
The Dog House MegawaysPragmatic Play96.51%~12,305×YesSticky Wilds with multipliers in FS
Gonzo's Quest MegawaysRed Tiger / NetEnt96%~21,000×YesAvalanche, progressive multiplier to 15×
Extra Chilli MegawaysBTG (original)96.19%~20,000×YesRisk gamble mechanic, free spins choice

When 5 Lions Megaways 2 makes sense: you want the 5 Lions series aesthetic, Pragmatic Play's verified RTP infrastructure, and a Megaways slot where the bonus round has evolving mechanics. When to look elsewhere: if maximum ceiling is your priority, Dog House Megaways (12,305×) and Gonzo's Quest (~21,000×) offer substantially higher caps. The 8,000× is 5 Lions Megaways 2's main limitation relative to Megaways competitors.

8,000× is a meaningful step up from 5 Lions Megaways (5,000×), but Dog House Megaways sits at 12,305× and Gonzo's Quest at around 21,000×. The ceiling is 5 Lions Megaways 2's weakest point on paper. Where it earns its place is the Level Up Coin mechanic, the series aesthetic, and Pragmatic Play's independently audited RTP — things that matter to the player this slot is actually built for.

⚠️ Responsible Gambling

5 Lions Megaways 2 is a high-volatility slot. Sequences of 100–200+ spins without significant payouts are statistically normal, not malfunctions. The Tumble mechanic and Wild multipliers create engaging session rhythms — but they are entertainment features, not signs of an imminent win. Set a loss limit before each session and stick to it.

Gambling should be entertainment, not income. If you find yourself increasing bets to recover losses, playing beyond your set limits, or using money you can't afford to lose — these are warning signs of problem gambling behaviour.

Casinos with 5 Lions Megaways 2 — Where to Play

5 Lions Megaways 2 has three RTP configurations: 96.5%, 95.50%, and 94.50%. The casinos below operate with the maximum 96.5% RTP and allow free demo play without registration. Bonus terms and current offers change frequently — always check directly on the operator's site before depositing.

What to check when choosing a casino for 5 Lions Megaways 2

Beyond the RTP version: withdrawal speed matters here — a MAX Free Spins result near the 8,000× ceiling could trigger manual verification. Check the casino's maximum withdrawal per session and per week before depositing. Also confirm that Buy Mystery (500× bet) is available in your jurisdiction — some regulated markets restrict Bonus Buy features. 5 Lions Megaways 2 launched in 2025; a small number of casinos may not yet carry it — verify availability before registering.

Before depositing, confirm your casino's RTP version in the game's rules screen or via live support. This takes two minutes and is worth doing.

Casino Bonuses and 5 Lions Megaways 2

Most licensed casinos offer a welcome bonus for new players — a deposit match, free spins, or combination. Specific terms change regularly and are listed on the operator's site. Check current conditions before registering.

What to look for in a bonus for 5 Lions Megaways 2: wagering requirements of 35–40× are standard for licensed operators. Confirm that 5 Lions Megaways 2 qualifies for wagering — as a 2025 release, some casinos may temporarily exclude it. Also check whether Bonus Buy is available when playing with bonus funds; many casinos disable it.

High volatility and bonus caps: 5 Lions Megaways 2 can theoretically reach 8,000× your stake in MAX Free Spins. Many casinos cap bonus winnings at $100–$500. At 8,000× potential, even a small stake can theoretically produce a win larger than most bonus caps — understand this limitation before playing with bonus funds on high-volatility titles.

Expert Verdict

4.6
5 Lions Megaways 2 — Megaways with a Genuine Bonus Upgrade System
Evan Rico · 7+ years in the industry · 500+ slot reviews

I've spent considerable time with 5 Lions Megaways 2 — both in demo and on a real balance — specifically to understand how the Level Up Coin mechanic plays out in practice. The honest answer: it delivers. Watching your Wild multiplier range concentrate higher as coins collect during a bonus round creates a tension that straightforward choice-and-play slots simply don't have.

MAX Free Spins is what makes this slot distinct from its predecessor. When you land an all-Super-Scatter trigger — or hit Buy Mystery and get MAX — the 35 spins with locked 100× Wild genuinely changes the dynamics. In one session, a 4-cascade chain with Wild in each produced a single-spin result around 300× stake — and that was a mid-range outcome for what MAX Free Spins can produce.

The Ante Bet question is genuinely interesting in this game. At 2.5× your normal bet for 7× the free spins frequency, the math suggests it's worth activating if you have the bankroll for it. That said, it locks out Bonus Buy, which creates a real strategic tension. I ran one mode per session rather than trying to mix.

What I'd improve: the 8,000× global cap feels slightly conservative given the 100× Wild potential. Dog House Megaways from the same provider caps at over 12,000× with a comparable mechanic. For a slot marketed around max potential, the ceiling could be higher — it's the main reservation in an otherwise excellent package.

Final score 4.6/5: 0.4 points deducted for the 8,000× ceiling relative to Megaways competitors and for the Ante Bet/Bonus Buy mutual exclusion. Everything else — Level Up Coin design, MAX Free Spins mode, expanded outer reels, RTP transparency — is excellent for the genre. A deserving sequel that improves on the original without sacrificing what made it work.

Good for
  • Players familiar with 5 Lions Megaways wanting a higher ceiling
  • Anyone who enjoys in-bonus progression mechanics
  • Comfortable with 5/5 volatility and 200+ spin bankroll
  • Players who want access to MAX Free Spins via Buy Mystery
  • Ante Bet as a strategy — 7× frequency boost at 2.5× per-spin cost
Not good for
  • Series newcomers — start with Dance or the original Megaways
  • Small bankroll (<$100) — 5/5 volatility is harsh
  • Players who want a fixed free spins setup with no mid-round evolution
  • Anyone uncomfortable with 100–200 base game spins between bonuses

5 Lions Megaways 2 — Pre-Play Checklist

Before switching to real-money play, run through these five points. If you can check all of them, you're well-prepared:

I've played 50+ demo spins and seen Level Up Coin in actionThe demo on this page is complete — all mechanics work. Trigger free spins at least twice to understand the 8-choice screen and how Level Up Coin upgrades your multiplier range mid-round.
I know my session budget and have set a loss limitMinimum comfortable budget: 200× your bet per spin. At $1 base bet with Ante Bet active, that's 200 × $2.50 = $500. Set this limit before the first spin.
I've confirmed the RTP at my casino is 96.5%Open the game's rules screen (page 6 of 9) or ask live support. Don't play at 94.50% — the difference in expected return adds up quickly on a high-volatility slot.
I understand the three free spins modes and the 8 choicesRegular FS = 3+ regular scatters → 8 choices. Super FS = mix with Super Scatter → 8 choices + extras. MAX FS = all Super Scatters → 35 spins, 100× Wild fixed. Level Up Coin upgrades your multiplier range during Regular and Super FS.
I'm playing for entertainment, not to generate incomeThe 8,000× ceiling is real but is a statistical outcome across many millions of spins, not a predictable personal result. Every session should stand alone as an entertainment budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions about Level Up Coin mechanics, free spins types, RTP, Ante Bet costs, and how this slot compares to the original — answered based on direct play and verified game rules.

What is the RTP of 5 Lions Megaways 2?
The standard RTP is 96.50%. Casinos may also deploy reduced versions at 95.50% or 94.50%. The RTP is identical across all play modes: base game, Ante Bet, Buy Free Spins (100×), Buy Super (150×), and Buy Mystery (500×) all return 96.50% at standard configuration. Check the game rules (page 6 of 9) or ask your casino's live support to confirm which version is active.
How does Level Up Coin actually work?
Level Up Coin is an in-free-spins mechanic only — it has no effect on the base game. During an active Regular or Super Free Spins round, Level Up Coin symbols land randomly on the reels. When 3 coins are collected, the round levels up: you receive +3 free spins and the lowest Wild multiplier in your chosen range is permanently removed. This can happen up to 3 times (through level 4). After level 4, every additional 3 coins still awards +3 spins. In MAX Free Spins, coins give +3 spins only — no multiplier evolution (100× is already fixed).
Can I play 5 Lions Megaways 2 for free without registering?
Yes — the free demo runs without any account or deposit. The demo is fully functional: all 8 free spins options, Level Up Coin evolution, Wild multipliers, Tumble, and all three Bonus Buy tiers work identically to the real-money version. This is the best way to learn the mechanics before spending real money.
What's the difference between Regular, Super and MAX Free Spins?
Regular Free Spins: 3+ regular Yin-Yang scatter symbols → choose 1 of 8 options (25–5 spins with different Wild multiplier ranges, or Mystery). Level Up Coin active during the round. Super Free Spins: scatter combination including at least 1 Super Scatter → same 8 options + randomly 1–10 bonus spins added + round may randomly start at Level 2. MAX Free Spins: 3+ Super Scatters with NO regular scatters → no choice screen; fixed 35 spins with 100× Wild multiplier for the entire round; Level Up Coin gives +3 spins only per 3 coins. All three modes share 96.50% RTP.
What is the maximum win in 5 Lions Megaways 2?
The official maximum win is 8,000× your total bet. At the maximum bet of $600, the theoretical maximum payout is $4,800,000. This cap is global — if cumulative winnings in a round reach 8,000× at any point, the round ends immediately and remaining free spins are forfeited. The 8,000× is most accessible in MAX Free Spins through multiple Tumble cascades each involving 100× Wild.
How does 5 Lions Megaways 2 differ from the original Megaways?
Key differences: (1) Ways to win: up to 262,144 in Megaways 2 vs 200,704 in the original. (2) Wild position: all 6 reels in Megaways 2 vs reels 2–5 only in the original. (3) Max win: 8,000× vs 5,000×. (4) MAX Free Spins mode: exclusive to Megaways 2 — all-Super-Scatter trigger, 35 spins + fixed 100× Wild. (5) Level Up Coin: in-free-spins multiplier evolution unique to Megaways 2. (6) Bonus Buy: three tiers (100×/150×/500×) vs effectively one tier in the original. Core mechanics (Megaways engine, Tumble, 8-option choice system, Ante Bet) are shared.
Does 5 Lions Megaways 2 have a Bonus Buy feature?
Yes — three options: Buy Free Spins (100× total bet) triggers Regular Free Spins with at least 3 regular scatter symbols. Buy Super (150× total bet) triggers Super Free Spins with at least 1 Super Scatter. Buy Mystery (500× total bet) randomly triggers Regular, Super, or MAX Free Spins — the only Bonus Buy path to MAX Free Spins. All three maintain 96.50% RTP. Note: Bonus Buy is disabled while Ante Bet is active.
How does Ante Bet work and what does it actually cost?
Ante Bet switches your game from standard 20× multiplier mode to 50× mode — making your actual per-spin cost 2.5× higher than your base stake. At a $1 base bet, Ante Bet costs $2.50 per spin. In return, free spins trigger 7× more frequently and Tumble events increase. The RTP remains 96.50%. Critical: Ante Bet disables Bonus Buy — you cannot use both simultaneously.
How often do free spins trigger naturally?
At 5/5 volatility, free spins triggers vary considerably in the base game — gaps of 100–300 spins are normal. With Ante Bet active (7× higher trigger probability, 2.5× higher per-spin cost), triggers occur much more frequently relative to total spins played. The type of trigger (Regular/Super/MAX) depends on scatter symbol combinations — MAX Free Spins requires an all-Super-Scatter combination and is the rarest.
Does 5 Lions Megaways 2 work on mobile?
Yes — fully optimised for mobile browsers on Android and iOS. Open your casino in Chrome or Safari to play without downloading anything. The 8-option free spins choice screen, Level Up Coin display, Bonus Buy panel, and Ante Bet toggle all render correctly on screens from 5 inches upward. An Android APK is also available.
What are the three Bonus Buy options in 5 Lions Megaways 2?
There are three Bonus Buy tiers: Buy Free Spins (100× total bet) guarantees Regular Free Spins with at least 3 regular scatter symbols — full 8-option choice screen applies. Buy Super (150× total bet) guarantees Super Free Spins with at least 1 Super Scatter — same 8 options plus 1–10 randomly added bonus spins and a possible Level 2 start. Buy Mystery (500× total bet) randomly delivers Regular Free Spins, Super Free Spins, or MAX Free Spins — this is the only Bonus Buy route to MAX Free Spins. All three options maintain 96.50% RTP. Note: Bonus Buy is disabled while Ante Bet is active — turn off Ante Bet first.
Should beginners start with 5 Lions Megaways 2?
No — we recommend starting with 5 Lions Dance (medium volatility) or 5 Lions Megaways (simpler mechanics). 5 Lions Megaways 2 layers the Level Up Coin mechanic on top of an already complex Megaways experience — the combined learning curve is steep for beginners. Once comfortable with how Megaways works, the transition to 5 Lions Megaways 2 feels natural.
Can I retrigger free spins in 5 Lions Megaways 2?
Yes — landing 3+ scatter symbols during an active free spins round awards additional spins. The round type (Regular/Super/MAX) does not change on retrigger. Level Up Coin continues to land and collect during retriggered spins in Regular and Super Free Spins, contributing toward further level-up events for the rest of the round.
